HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN VIRUS

By TAK BUI and GEOFF JOHNSON

Put the characters from PC & Pixel comix on your desk! Here's how you can hack out your own bug in
a few easy steps.
(Driver included!)

WHAT YOU NEED:

 1) A drawing of Virus the Bug, PC Odata's car.
Click to go to the appropriate Bug model:

Black-white VIRUS Color VIRUS

2) A sheet of color or white cardstock that can be printed on
in your laser printer or copied on with a photocopier:-OR-
A sheet of color or white paper and a sheet of heavier cardstock that you can glue onto. (The real "Virus the Bug" is red, but feel free to print the black and white Bug on white cardstock or paper and have fun coloring the car and characters.)

3) A sharp knife with Xacto blade; or scissors (REMEMBER: ALWAYS ASK AN ADULT FOR HELP WHEN HANDLING SHARP OBJECTS.)

4) Glue; or transparent tape; or both depending on your cardstock.

BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS:

1) PRINTING:

A- BLACK & WHITE PRINTING:

--IF YOUR PRINTER CAN PRINT ON HEAVIER CARDSTOCK:

Insert cardstock into printer. Print out Black-white Virus directly onto cardstock by selecting PRINT from your browser while you have the Bug model page on your screen.
(Remember to check your printer instructions to see if your
printer can print on cardstock, or else you'll end up with a traffic jam!) Go to Step 2.

--IF YOUR PHOTOCOPIER CAN COPY ONTO HEAVIER CARDSTOCK:

Using your printer, print out Bug onto plain white paper by selecting PRINT from your browser while you have the Bug model page on your screen. Slip some cardstock into the photocopier's paper feed bin. Copy the printed Bug page onto the cardstock. You could also enlarge the Bug onto larger cardstock if you wanted to make a bigger Bug. (Remember to check your photocopier instructions to see if your photocopier can copy on heavy cardstock, or else you'll end up with
engine trouble!) Go to Step 2.

--IF YOU CAN'T DO EITHER:

Using your printer, print out Bug onto plain white or color paper by selecting PRINT from your browser while you have the Bug model page on your screen. It's OK to put the Bug together
now, but you might want to glue the page (art side up) to a heavier cardstock or cardboard so the Bug will last longer (5 years or 50,000 miles). If you glue onto heavier stock,
remember to apply enough glue to the whole page, since you'll be cutting an intricate pattern on it. Let dry. Then go to Step 2.

B- COLOR PRINTING:

If you have a color printer, print out Colored Virus onto plain white paper or cardstock. (Remember to check your printer instructions to see if your color printer can print on cardstock,
or else you'll end up with a traffic jam!) For more details on
copying the Bug model, see the black & white printing instructions above for help. Then go to Step 2.

2) CUTTING:

Cut car along wide black outline using Xacto blade or scissors (REMEMBER: ALWAYS HAVE AN ADULT HELP WITH
SHARP OBJECTS) And don't cut off the little tabs!!

3) FOLDING:

Make a curve along roofline, fold the sides in, and fold the
tabs inward.

4) STICKING:

Using glue or tape, attach the tabs to the interior of the Bug
(the side of the paper without art on it). Follow the contour of
the car, attaching tabs, and then VIOLA! you've just created a Bug for your computer. Put Virus atop your computer monitor
or on your desk, and let PC and the gang protect you from
those other kinds of computer bugs while you cruise the Highway.

*FUN THINGS TO DO WITH VIRUS:

--Virus the Bug also fits snugly over any mouse as a
mouse dust cover.

--If the hood is chopped off, the mouse can be used as
normal while the Bug becomes a "convertible."

--You might even want to take it to the bathtub to test out the legendary VW floatability! (This can be detrimental to the
Bug's longevity.)
